Hogwarts

No New Posts Great Hall

The Great Hall is a large hall with four long tables. Each house is assigned a table, where they eat at mealtimes and receive daily post. Along with meals, the halls are used for certain special events, such as the Sorting Ceremony, because it's easily large enough to hold all the staff, students, and guests. The hall has tall walls that reach up to the ceiling covered with candles and is enchanted to look like the sky above. The front of the hall holds another long table, which holds the Hogwarts staff. At the center of the table is the throne like chair where the current Headmaster or Headmistress sits, and in front of that a large podium carved with an owl. To the left side of the table is a door which leads to a chamber full of portraits.

Only six visitors are allowed at a time for each patient. It's well equipped for many magical and mundane injuries, from broken bones to regrowing bones. The Hospital Wing is able to deal with many different situations, as such, it's a rare occasion a patient is sent to St Mungo's for further treatment.

No New Posts Common Rooms

There are four common rooms located throughout the school, one for each house. A common room is a lounge area shared by the house within the school. Common rooms each have a fireplace and sitting areas. Because the different houses have different colors and personalities, each common room is decorated to represent their house. The four common rooms also have two dormitories, one for the men, the other for the women. Because when the school was first made, it was deemed women were more trusted than males, a female can enter the male dormitories, but a male is unable to enter the female dormitories. Each house requires a certain means of entering their dorms to prevent the other houses from entry. Hufflepuff has a tune that needs to be tapped, Ravenclaw a riddle, and Slytherin and Gryffindor a password.

No New Posts Headmaster's Office

A large circular room with many windows and portraits of late headmasters and headmistresses, the Headmaster's office is the permanent home of the Sorting hat. Behind the Headmaster's desk is a portrait of the predecessor of the current headmaster, and this portrait is the largest in the room. The office holds number of delicate looking silver instruments that whir and emit small puffs of smoke which sit on spindly tables. There is also an incredible collection of books, a Pensieve, and Dumbledore's pet phoenix, Fawkes.

No New Posts Room of Requirement

A secret of Hogwarts, the Room of Requirement only reveals itself when someone in need walks past it three times thinking about what they need. It is thought to bear some degree of sentience, as it transforms into whatever the person using the room needs at the moment. While the room is able to produce next to everything, there are limitations, and the room is unable to provide food to those inside. It's located on the seventh floor of Hogwarts, opposite the tapestry demonstrating the attempt of Barnabas the Barmy to teach trolls ballet. The users of the room are advised to be very specific about what they are looking for, as it's been shown others are able to find the room and see what the occupants are doing if they know the room is in use. It is also in this manner the room can be used to keep certain people out, if the user specifically asks the hideout to keep certain people out.

No New Posts Owlery

Located at the top of the Castle's West Tower is the Owlery, home of the owls owned by students, staff, and the school during the school year. A circular stone room known to be cold and drafty because of the lack of glass in the windows, owls are able to come and go freely, but when they are there, they rest on perches rising right to the top of the tower. The floor is covered in straw, owl droppings, and regurgitated skeletons of rodents. The room is very cold in the winter, and ice is often found on the higher levels of the owlery during these months.

No New Posts Forbidden Forest

No New Posts Whomping Willow

The Whomping Willow was planted in 1971 to disguise an entrance into the Shrieking Shack. It's a very valuable plant, but very violent too. The plant attacks anything that comes into range of its branches, and can only be calmed if a knot near its based is touched. It's a deciduous plant, and its limbs function much like arms, so any damage received to it has to be treated as such.

No New Posts Black Lake

The Black Lake is a large body of water to the south of the castle. It's about half a mile in diameter, and used to drain the school's plumbing network. As per tradition, first years sail across the lake to Hogwarts, led by Hagrid in boats. It's often cold, but students sometimes have their legs in the water, and some swim in it. The lake is home to a Giant Squid, grindylows, and a colony of Merpeople.
