Origins Crossroads School for the Conjurer is attended by students from the United States, and is located roughly in the center of the fifty states, including that of Alaska and Hawaii, placing it somewhere in the southwestern part of South Dakota. The school was found in the late 1600's, by Hecate Witcher. Witcher lived in Salem, Oregon, and was caught performing magic by a common folk (non magical human), who reported it to the authorities. As such, Witcher was taken into custody, and supposedly burned at the cross. She snuck away after being "burned" and settled in the Dakota Territories. There with the help of the Arikara Indian tribe, Jenara Witcher started Jenara's School for the Conjurer. Witcher decided seven years of schooling would be enough for the witches and wizards attending the school. Students were sorted based on year, and would move on to their next year when the school year started once again.
Transportation The school was hidden using a Fidelus Charm, Hecate acting as its first Secret Keeper. Teachers knew of the location of the school, however, Hecate mistrusted the students and kept its location hidden from them. Students were transported to and from the school using two Ghost Buses, one picking up the students in the West, the other used to transport the students from the East. The buses were invisible to common folk, and drove in a straight path, phasing through solid matter. A special potion was brewed and each student had to drink it, causing their bodies to become temporarily intangible, the effect lasting the eight hours it took to arrive to the school.
Classes The classes offered at Hecate's is similar to those at Hogwarts, albeit with name changes, and a few changes to the curriculum taught to the class. Because the years are so large in numbers, the students in each year are given a separate schedule, causing them to attend their classes at different times. Students have classes with many different students in their year. Below is a list of the classes offered at the school.Spellwork The equivalent of Charms, Spellwork Classes cover the types of spells that aren't considered Counter Spells. The types of spells taught are Charms, Transfiguration, Jinxes, Hexes, and Curses. Alchemy Alchemy class teaches how to brew potions, and is the equivalent of Potions Class at Hogwarts. Students are required to take this class up until their sixth year, where they can test out of it on their EAGLE (Exam Acquiring Growth Leveling Evolution) if they score Proficient or higher. Defense Class This class often works with Spell Class and Transfiguration on certain spells, teaching students how to defend themselves against the different spells that are taught in the other classes. Often when a new spell is caught in one of the other classes, its counter curse is taught in Defense Class. Magical Creatures Around the Globe Often taught outside, this class often has creatures many considered dangerous as the feature of its class. The different magical creatures studied in class are changed daily, and it's no surprise to see a Griffin or a Kelpie tied somewhere for the class to study. Wizarding History The wizarding world is filled with rich history, and this class does not discriminate based on country or continent. They spend each year focusing on one continent, studying the different conflicts, schools, information of interest each year. Arithmancy One of the few classes who shares the same name as its Hogwarts counterpart, Arithmancy is the study of magical numerical properties. Its curriculum is similar, if not identical to that taught at Hogwarts. Studying Common Folk A class offered from the fourth year onwards, this class focuses solely on the evolution of common folks, each year focusing on different aspects of common folk life. The fourth year is their history, fifth their customs and technology, their six year focuses on conflicts between wizards and common folk, and their seventh year prepares the students for the time they're going to live with the common folk who know about the wizarding world. Astrology Taught by a centaur, this class focuses solely on planetary alignment and predicting large scale events from them. Astronomy and Astrology are often taught in conjunction with each other; what students learn in Astronomy are applied with Astrology, and their teacher will teach the students about using that planet, star, or moon to predict something. Astronomy Taught in conjunction with Astrology, Astronomy focuses on the more practical and set in stone part of planetary alignment. This class studies the positioning of the stars, moons, and planets in the sky. Magical Plantlife There are many different plants throughout the wizarding world, and this class studies a variety of them, the more dangerous and exotic ones in the older classes. They learn where the plants' natural habitats are, their uses, how to care for them, and potential dangers to the plants in this class. Ancient Runes Offered from the fourth year to the seventh, Ancient Runes focuses on the interpretation of runes, and translating them into English.
